THE BRITANNIA INN - THE BRANCH
What's in a name?
The pub has a nickname 'The Branch'.
Two stories as to the reason for this nickname
1. Local meetings for the EEPTU union held monthly at the Britannia Inn.
When Carol Williams took over in 1992 this monthly meeting was still happening.
2. The more popular theory is the fact that the South Stack pub in Holyhead used to be a small brewery as well as a pub. This brewery had two other pubs in Holyhead, The Victoria Inn & the Britannia Inn.
The Britannia became known as a branch of the South Stack brewery, hence the nickname sticks to this day (even taxi drivers know it as the Branch)
If anyone has any other stories they have heard to explain the nickname, then Alan & Carol would love to hear from you.
ANY OLD PHOTOS
Now we have a home for them, we've like to upload any old photos you have of the pub to the website. So get digging around the attic and see what you've got!
